[Period]
Edo period (1800–1830)

Made during the Edo period, this Ko-Imari small jar depicts taikoseki (Lake Tai scholar's rocks) and koi swimming beneath a waterfall on its exterior. Blue lines representing flowing water bring movement throughout the piece, conveying both the power and harmony of nature. Vividly colored painting combined with a rounded form gives the piece both dignity and charm. This small jar expresses a traditional Japanese view of nature: the koi symbolizes strength and growth, while the taikoseki and water motifs skillfully blend stillness with movement.
