This supreme framed artwork sets the noble figures of sacred birds against a flowing current of water, all radiant upon an elegant deep navy ground.

The base "kon-ji" (navy ground) forms a deep, tranquil world of indigo. Flowing gracefully through it, the "ryūsui" (flowing water) pattern vividly expresses the warding off of misfortune and the wish for everlasting peace. Along the banks of this pure current, flowers of the four seasons bloom in abundance, symbolizing a life of prosperity, while at the center, a pair of phoenixes gracefully spread their wings. Representing peace under heaven and marital harmony, the phoenixes are woven in richly colored, dimensional thread, catching the light with a divine brilliance.
