Relationships with Artisans / 作り手との関係性

At Prosperity Japan, we take time to carefully listen to the thoughts and stories behind each work from its maker, and are entrusted with how these creations are communicated and developed thereafter. At the heart of this relationship is mutual trust.

Our role is to convey the philosophy and intentions embedded in each piece to audiences abroad, ensuring that their true value is properly understood. We see ourselves as a bridge between artisans and the global market.

One particularly memorable experience was meeting a handweaving artisan of Nishijin textiles. After learning about the weaving process and witnessing the work firsthand, the artisan spoke candidly about the uncertainty and challenges posed by the lack of successors.

That moment made us realize that our role extends beyond presenting the work itself. It also means standing close to the makers, understanding their circumstances, and honoring the thoughts and realities behind their craft.

Prosperity Japanでは、作り手の方々から作品に込められた思いや背景について丁寧にお伺いしたうえで、その先の伝え方や展開については任せていただいています。そうした関係性において何よりも重要なのは、相互の信頼関係であると思っています。

Prosperity Japanが担うべき役割は、作品に込められた思いや哲学を作り手に代わって海外へ伝え、その価値を正しく理解してもらうことにあります。作り手と海外市場とをつなぐ橋渡しの存在でありたいと考えています。

これまでの中で印象に残っている出来事の一つに、西陣織の手織り職人の方との出会いがあります。織物の工程について説明を受け、実際に織りの様子を拝見した後、後継者不在への不安や葛藤を率直に語ってくださいました。

その言葉に触れ、作品を扱うだけでなく、作り手の想いや置かれている状況に寄り添うこともまた、自分たちの大切な役割の一つであると強く感じました。
